Colourpop is one of those Instagram/YouTube famous brands that I've been wanting to try for a long time. I've heard reviews all over the board from different YouTube beauty vloggers that I follow and, since testing products/formulas is one of my favorite hobbies, I knew I needed to try them out for myself! Now that I have them, let's talk about formula, swatches, and how they held up through the day for me!
For these swatches, my arm was clean and dry. I didn't apply any primer or anything else on my arm. I swatched each color twice - once (on the left) with my finger, and second (on the right) with a flat eyeshadow brush because I found that's what picks up the color the best.
Let's talk about them from left to right!
Static - This is described as a pearlized, deep burgundy. This shade is beautiful and deep, and seemed to apply fairly well with a brush. The color is smooth and not chunky with just the right amount of sparkle.
Sequin - This is described as a metallic penny-like shade with multi-dimensional glitter. It was the most chunky of these shades and responded best with finger application. You may be able to build the color up with a brush, but I think you would run in to a decent amount of glitter fallout. Personally, applying with my finger doesn't bother me, especially since I'm most likely to use this color on my lid not a tricky area like the crease.
Brandy - This is the matte shade in the quad and is a beautiful dusty rose color. This one applies decently well with a brush, but I found I had the best luck when I patted it into my crease with my finger and then blended out softly with a brush.
Truth - This is described as a satin light beige, but I found it very similar to the pearlized finish of Static.
Viper - This is described as a dusty rose color. I found it to be a little deeper (more plummy on my skin tone) than I had expected, but it's still a really lovely color! I have been slowly falling in love with matte liquid lipsticks. I'm not the best at applying them yet, but I will get there!
Call Me (Pencil Liner) - This is described as a deep, plummy brown. I don't usually love pencil eyeliners - I find that they shift all over the place on my lids, personally - but I've heard great things about Colourpop's liners, so I thought I'd give it a try!
Call Me (Gel Liner) - This is the same shade as the pencil liner except it's in the gel pot formula. It swatches much deeper than the pencil liner, however. I like gel liners usually, so I'm looking forward to putting this one to the test.
For this wear test I didn't put on any eyeshadow primer under these shadows. I did, however, use the lightest shade (Carefree) from my Tartelette palette all over my lid as a base since this quad doesn't have a good matte base shade. I used the pencil eyeliner for this wear test (if you want a review of the gel liner, let me know.) It went on fairly easily but the tip did snap off when I was first starting to apply even though I wasn't applying much pressure.
First Check In: Right After Application at 12:45PM
This is what my makeup looked light right after application. I'm not sure why the inner part of my lip looks so much lighter than the outer parts of my lips - I didn't line them and I went over that middle part a couple times to make sure I hadn't missed applying the same amount of product, but they stayed ombre.
Second Check In: After 3 Hours at 3:45PM
The first thing I need to note with this check in is that Michael and I tried taking advantage of a break in the rain to snap a few photos outside, but it started to drizzle again as soon as we were at our location. We hurried through taking them and then rain back to the car right before it started to pour. That's why my hair is a bit more wild looking.
So far everything is wearing comfortably. The lipstick is transfer-proof and comfortable. I did eat lunch (chili) during this time, so the fact that my lipstick still looks so good really impressed me. I noticed that the eyeshadow is still present and still looks good, but has also started to muddy together (common for me without eyeshadow primer, so I'm definitely wanting to try this with primer soon.)
Third + Final Check In: After 6 Hours at 6:45PM
This was when I declared the test run done for the day. As you can see from the photos below, my lipstick decided to give out on me. I think it was the Klondike bar I ate as a pre-dinner snack. Up until this point it was still holding on strong. My eyeshadow is more muddied together than it was 3 hours prior, but I think it still looks decent. I'll definitely be wearing primer under it on a regular basis, though. Getting 6 hours of wear out of the lipstick was way better than I had expected. I think if I wore it on a day when I wasn't eating messy foods, I could get even longer wear out of it. My overall verdict is that I'm very impressed and look forward to using these products all the time!
What do you think? Have you tried Colourpop? Would you like me to test it with eyeshadow primer or to see me test the gel liner?
