Did you know that gluten is a fairly common ingredient in makeup products? You've probably not given it any thought if you're not allergic to gluten (like I am), but it's something I have been working to take into consideration more for my own life. (As a makeup lover, I admittedly don't always check my labels, but I have noticed that my skin does so much better when I use gluten free products.)
Researching which products are gluten free can be a bit of a pain, most makeup brands don't make it easy. Because of this, I wanted to start a series where occasionally, when I find 5 or 6 really great gluten free makeup products, I'll compile a list and share them with you. Hopefully this is helpful for those of you who either struggle with a gluten allergy, or are just interested in cutting more of it out of your life!
Julep Nail Polish ($14/each) - While Julep does offer a monthly subscription box, you do not need to be part of this subscription service in order to purchase their products. What I love about these polishes are that besides being gluten free, they are also 5-free (formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, DBP, and camphor) and vegan-friendly. The colors featured here are: Anisa, Queen Anne, and Savoy. Anisa is the PERFECT shade of red for fall.
***Something to note, though, is that it is generally debatable regarding whether their beauty products are gluten free.
Milk Makeup Highlighter ($24) - This highlighter practically melts to the touch and applies the most seamless, naturally radiant glow to the skin. It's perfect if you feel like your skin is looking dull and want to brighen up an every day look without going full-glam, but it's also great for applying to your collarbone if you want just a hint of extra radiance on a more formal occasion.
***While Milk Makeup advertises that their entire line is gluten free and cruelty free, they also have an easy search filter that helps you discover soy-free, vegan, or other unique items. Lines that make it easy to find what's important to me rank very high in my book!
Privai Nourishing Face + Body Oil ($38) - First, I would like to note that the item pictured above is a sample from Birchbox, you would get a larger container for the full price of this item. I received this sample from Birchbox last month and have been adoring applying it before bed! It has a great, relaxing scent, and my skin looks and feels so hydrated in the morning. I will definitely be purchasing the full-size.
Tarte Cosmetics Eye Shadow Palettes ($45) - From my research, Tarte's eyeshadow palettes are almost always gluten free. (A lot of their line actually is.) The thing I love the most is that their gluten free products are clearly labeled on the packages themselves, which makes it so easy to know for sure! I own two Tarte eye shadow palettes and just adore them both from pigment, to blend-ability, to wear time.
***Photographed is Tarte's Swamp Queen palette from their collaboration with YouTuber Grav3yardgirl. It was a limited edition palette and I'm not sure if they have another restock planned. If you can snag it, I recommend it!
From Lia to You Body Butter ($20 full size/$8.50 small) - This body butter is so thick and luxurious! It goes on so smooth, and instantly leaves your skin feeling so much softer. Plus, you can read the ingredients list and understand what they all are!
***From Lia to You is a woman-owned business based in Charleston, SC which makes purchasing these products even better. Support small businesses, especially if they're local, friends!
Do you have to be wary of gluten in your makeup products? Any products you would like me to check on for you?
