I received these products compliments of Influenster and Maybelline, but all opinions are 100% my own, as always. #SuperStay24 #contest
Lipstick used to be something that I wore all.the.time. My freshman year of college, in particular, I rocked red lipstick on the regular. It was basically a makeup staple for me. Over the past few years I mostly forgot about lipstick (eye shadow was always, and still is, my most favorite product), but this past summer I've enjoyed reigniting my love for it as part of my makeup routine. When I received these two lipsticks from Influenster, I was really excited to try them. I already use and love multiple Maybelline products, so I was hopeful that these would become a new favorite product from the brand.
In my box, there were two shades for me to try. The darker, red shade is called "Keep Up the Flame" - which I thought was the perfect shade of red for Fall - and the lighter, pink shade is called "Constant Toast." Both shades are really lovely, and ones I lack in my current lipstick collection. (Win for me!)
With all of the liquid lipsticks on the market at the moment, I have a few specific expectations of the ones that I try: I want a liquid lipstick that will last for hours, be transfer proof, and not suck the life out of my lips. I also prefer colors that are opaque so I don't need to deal with trying to layer them. Personally, I don't feel like these expectations are that insane.
Each lipstick comes as a two-sides applicator. Side 1 is the color. You're supposed to apply this and then wait approximately two minutes for it to dry down before applying Step 2. Step 2 is the ultra conditioning balm that you apply to help keep the lipstick comfortable.
Above you can see swatches of the two colors without the ultra conditioning balm applied over top. (I did have to go over the pink swatch a couple times to get it to show up - you will need to build up that color. The red, meanwhile, was a one-pass swatch.) Below I've inserted a photo of the colors with the ultra conditioning balm over top. As you can see, it leaves the lipstick with a satin finish.
After swatching the colors, I decided to do a wear test (because you can't tell everything about a product just from swatches alone.) For the wear test I decided to go with the bold red shade. It applied easily - I really like the applicator because it allows you a great amount of control over the product. After waiting the recommended two minutes of dry time, I found that the lipstick was still tacky but seemed mostly dry. I waited an extra couple minutes to see if it would dry down further, but it didn't, so I proceeded with the the ultra moisturizing balm. The balm went a long way in making the lipstick feel comfortable and completely removed the tackiness of the product.
I will say that the lipstick is not one of those that you can put on and then completely forget that you're wearing. I was aware that I had the product on my lips throughout the 8 hours I wore it, however, I also never felt like it was drying my lips out.
I ate lunch (soup) about 2 1/2 hours after I first put the lipstick on and thought for sure that it would all come off. Amazingly, it didn't! (I snapped before and after photos on my phone, so you can see for yourself!)
It was after about 4 hours that I started to feel as if the product might be bunching or flaking off. At this point little tiny bits would transfer off when I reapplied the ultra moisturizing balm (something I did maybe 4 times throughout the whole 8 hours), but they weren't noticeable if I kissed Michael on the cheek, so I'd still count it as transfer proof.
After 8 hours of wear, I was done having it on my lips. While it wasn't obnoxious to be aware of it all day, I was ready to unwind for the evening and just be free. It still looked relatively fresh at this point in the day - you could just begin to see little bits of wear around the inside of my lips.
Overall, I'm really impressed with these lipsticks. I'd definitely recommend them if you're looking for a less expensive liquid lipstick that is genuinely transfer-proof and will last you through the duration of an event you're attending. (Particularly if you're in need of a color that you know you're rarely going to wear.) However, I am still undecided about if I'm going to rush out and buy more shades just because I really would love a more comfortable liquid lipstick. I think I'll be wearing these shades a few more times before I fully decide. (If I do purchase more, I'll definitely be updating you on Instagram!)
What do you think? Would these lipsticks meet your expectations? Do you have a favorite liquid lipstick?
P.S. Should I put these to the test for their full 24 hour wear claim? If you'd be interested in seeing that, leave a comment down below and let me know!
