Last weekend, my mom came to Charleston to spend some time with Michael and me. None of my immediate family had been able to visit us since our move, so we were really excited to have her come spend time with us and to show her around this city we've been making our home. My mom and I did some of the more "girly" things that we love during the week while Michael was working (like shopping on King Street and hunting for bargains at the thrift stores), but during the weekend we wanted to do things that appealed more to Michael.

Since both my mom and I are gluten free, we thought it would be a great idea to try a breakfast place that has been on Michael's and my restaurant list for a while. I've worked a wedding with the owners through my full time job, and they mentioned that they were really gluten free friendly (sometimes they even have gluten free pancake mix!), so Three Little Birds Cafe got launched to the top of our list. It just felt like the perfect place to take my mom for breakfast.
Three Little Birds Cafe (first, can we say how cute their little awning is??) has the cutest little location. They offer  both indoor and outdoor seating (though we were very happy to snag an indoor table with the brisk fall weather Charleston was experiencing on Saturday.) All three of us had trouble deciding what we wanted to order. Unfortunately, they were out of their gluten free pancake mix, but we all found options that we loved, so it worked out. (Though I am determined to go back until I get to try their pancakes!)

Mom got their Crimini mushroom, spinach + Swiss omelet with a side of home fries, I got their avocado omelet (avocado, onion + tomatoes, sans the cilantro they usually put in - cilantro tastes like dirt to me) with a side of fresh fruit, and Michael got their Lowcountry shrimp and grits.  All three dishes were gluten free and wonderful! They also kept us well fueled for our adventures during the rest of the day.

Michael and I don't often choose to go out for brunch, but we will definitely be returning to this cozy place!

What is your favorite brunch spot?

xoxo,
Stacia
